A group from the Latin American Solidarity Network ( Toronto) came to the offices Hon. MP Peter Kent’s Thornhill office at the 7600 Yonge St. for a scheduled 12:30pm meeting with a representative . As soon as they arrived a police car was waiting outside and a office worker rushed inside and immediately shut the door and put up a CLOSED Sign . When he came to the door he presented Peter Kent’s business card and said that the MP was out of the country and a representative could be reached next week for a response . When asked further information he continued to his vehicle.
The group of over 40 people wgo continue to arrived to the offices were asked not to come park in front of the property by local police as per orders by the management property.
The group gathered walking in picket line on the sidewalk holding , signs, banners and a Honduran Flag. ”
Jose Martinez who is from Honduras and was in the city of San Pedro de Sula on June 28th before the coup as an outside international observor ,”What happnening is Honduras is very serious as people are being presecuted , radio stations and anyone organizers offices are being destroyed by the military.Even reporters are going missing and some cases being expelled from the country like in the case of TELE sur and VTV crews

Honduras and has lived in Canada for many years is also very disappointed at the MP’s office for closing its doors , “It is disrespectful the way our elected officials don;t even have the time for the citizen’s with serious concerns. What is happening in Honduras is very serious as people are being killed , beaten and any media condemming the coups their offices are being destroyed by the military. Even reporters are being beaten and some cases being expelled from the country like in the case of TELE sur and VTV crews” . Nora Noyala who is from knows all to well what happens in when a countries democracy is overthrown , “We want to show our support for the Hondurn people because as Latin American’s we all come from countries that have a dark history of coup d’etats and illegal overthrows of government .If you ask the people here we have people from Chile ( Sept 1973 coup) , Venezuelan ( 2000 coup) , Guatemalan (1954 coup), etc.
At 12:30pm they walked to the MP’s office and knocked on the door but no one answered. So they called the number and got an answering machine and left a message at Kent’s Office.
Protestor’s behind shouted ,”Shmane on Peter Kent ! Shmane on Peter Kent !and we will be back! ”
They plan to return to his office and keep the pressure up for the government to take a stronger stand.
